Navigating Training During Pregnancy: A guide to training & more
As a personal training studio and gym dedicated to fostering health and wellness, we understand the importance of supporting our members through all stages of life. For expecting mothers, maintaining a consistent training routine can be a vital aspect of their prenatal care. We have quite a few pregnant clients at the moment so in this blog post, we'll explore how gyms can provide a safe and empowering environment for pregnant women to continue their fitness journey (just in case you, or someone you might know, are expecting).
Here at TFC, we want it to be known that there are so many benefits that regular exercise can offer to expecting mothers. From alleviating discomforts to promoting better sleep and reducing stress, staying active during pregnancy contributes to overall well-being. Additionally, maintaining muscle strength and endurance can be particularly advantageous during labor and delivery, making exercise an essential component of prenatal care.
Before beginning or continuing any exercise program during pregnancy, we strongly encourage mumma’s to be to consult with their doctor before they start training with us! By collaborating with a medical team, women can receive personalised guidance and recommendations tailored to their individual needs and circumstances. This also goes for women returning to training postpartum.
So what kind of exercise is safe whilst pregnant? Modified strength training can provide a safe and effective way to stay active during pregnancy and you CAN carry on training how you usually would. The key is to not jump into anything new or something that your body is not used to. All TFC staff members are trained to assist you in selecting appropriate exercises and modifying movements as necessary to ensure a comfortable and beneficial workout experience.
Beyond pregnancy, we encourage you to get back into your exercise routine as soon as you have the all clear from your doctor and ALSO when it feels good for you and your body. This might look different for everybody. The most important thing is that you ease back into your training and listen to your body. There is no rush! But we will make sure you feel supported and safe the entire way.
If you have any concerns about training throughout your pregnancy, we are here to support you!
